Praise Through The Storm

I can’t get a video out of my head this week… a school bus—packed with young survivors from Camp Mystic—flood waters to their left and right. Trees uprooted. Roads turned into rivers. And yet, from the bus came singing. The girls, shaken and soaked from the previous night, lifted their voices in unison. The song? Pass it on.

“I’ll shout it from the mountain top,

Praise God!

I want my world to know,

The Lord of Love has come to me,

I want to pass it on.”

They had just escaped disaster. Some of their friends hadn’t. And yet—amid loss and fear—they sang.

These girls were not on a mountaintop. They were deep in the valley. And still—they chose to praise.

It reminded me of Psalm 46:1–3

“God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging…

These young girls taught us all a lesson that day.

• Worship is most beautiful in the valley.

It’s easy to sing from the mountain. But down in the storm? That’s another story.

• God is close in the chaos.

When the waters rise and the world shakes, He is our refuge and strength.

• Your praise speaks.

Those girls passed it on—not just through lyrics, but by living faith out loud.

In the midst of devastation and continuous heartbreaking news, we get a glimpse of hope. Let these girls be our example of how to praise in the middle of our storms. May we each pass it on.
